Most people think that a content writer’s job is to copy the text from one website and paste it on another site. Even when I first joined Brains Media Solutions as a content writer, I thought it was a copy-paste job.

But, this is wrong.

A content writer’s job is to write about a topic in his own words. He or she first makes a research on the topic given, note down a few major points and then express these points in his/her words. Content writing is simply the information that appears on most of the websites online. Information that is genuine and easy to read. For example, when you type Belgaum, Karnataka in Google, you get information about the place.

The information provided by Google is called content. In the above image, the highlighted text is content written about Belgaum. Here, the information is genuine and easy to read.

Let me explain with you one more example:

When we search for recipes say “how to make an egg curry” in Google, you will get a step by step guide like this:

This step-by-step points to prepare the dish is again called content. So, if you are a content writer, you will be given a topic by the client and you need to write about it using your own words and sentences.

The sentences you write should not be copied from other sites. You can only read from other websites, pick some points and then create your sentences. Let me tell you more about content writing:

After working for 4 years as a content writer at Brains Media Solutions, I can say this with complete assurance, a career in Content Writing is as bright as other jobs. Here, the product information (highlighted text) is called content. This type of content is generally called “Product Description”.

A product description usually involves:

* Specifications of the product as shown in the first image and

* A few lines about the product as shown in the second image

If you look at that whole para, it is not written in simple sentences. They have used some creative words like “Add a touch of sophistication” and “are extremely fine in quality and can be maintained easily.” This is called content writing or product description. So, we can say

"A product description is all about highlighting the features of a product and help the customer choose the best"

Make My Trip:

Suppose you are planning a holiday to Goa with your friends and you are looking to book a hotel online. When you search Make My Trip or any other online websites, they display several hotels in Goa. When you click on a particular hotel, say for example De Grand Riviera, Calangute, you will see this page:

The content is written gives us a brief idea about the hotel like where is it located, what are the nearby places, what are the facilities available in the hotel rooms and so on. Here the content helps the customer to choose a particular hotel as per his needs. So, we can say

"A content writing is all about giving more relevant information to the customer"

In other words,

"Content is a way of telling the customer more about your company’s products"

Or

"A content is simply written to give some useful information about a topic to the online users"

* Blog and article writing for business

* Technical writing about the latest developments in the IT industry
